LED Globes – The Modern Light

If you want to accessorise your home in every way possible, then you should certainly think about investing in some LED globes. LEDs are incredibly energy efficient and they are very affordable to purchase when compared to other alternatives as well. You will also find that they are just as bright, if not brighter and they are a great purchase for any home. LED globes are much wider when compared to standard bulbs and they are much more modern as well, so you can get more light without necessarily rocketing your energy bills. Another thing that you should know about LED globes is that the entire bulb lights up with the same amount of light. Standard bulbs often have a warm centre with the light fading out as it reaches the side of the bulb, and in most cases you may find yourself purchasing higher watts when it isn’t needed. With LED globes, you don’t need to worry about this and they make great alternatives in almost any situation.

Long Lasting

LED globes are incredibly long lasting when compared and you won’t find yourself changing your bulbs half as often. It doesn’t matter whether you are investing in LED globes because you are dissapointed in the life of your existing bulbs or just because you want something that looks a little different, they remain to be some of the best around and if you’re not quite sure which type or brightness to get, all you need to do is contact your electrician and they will be able to help. With different colours available as well, you can be sure to customise your lighting the way you want and without any compromise as well. Why You Need a Smoke Alarm for Your Home

If you have just moved into a property, chances are that checking the smoke alarms is the last thing on your to-do list. You may think that you have better and more important things to do or you may feel as though it isn’t really necessary, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Fire can travel fast and in the average home, there is plenty of flammable material. This includes sofas, curtains, wooden doors, carpets and so much more, so you can start to see how quickly a small fire could turn into a devastating force. It is important to understand that you can’t really stop a fire from occurring, but you can help to increase your chances of survival if it does. A smoke alarm could give you those extra few minutes you need to get you and your family out to safety and it could save a lot of the possessions in your home as well.

The main problem that people experience when it comes to smoke alarms is the batteries. You may think that you are safe if you have a smoke alarm but if you don’t check or change the batteries then you might as well not have one at all. It only takes a couple of seconds to check the batteries in your existing smoke alarm.

Many people choose to get combined carbon monoxide and smoke alarms and this is a great way to make sure that you and your family get the added level of protection they need to stay safe, all new smoke alarms must be hard wired and be interconnected. Again, your electrician will be able to help you with the installation, so make sure that you contact Limelite Electrics today to see what products and alternatives are available. With commercial businesses catered for as well, it has never been a better time to protect yourself from the effects of fire.

What Is an RCD and How Could It Help You

An RCD or a Residual Current Device is designed to protect you from an electric shock if you were to touch something like a bare wire. It can also provide you with some level of protection against electrical fires as well, and when compared to circuit breakers, it is the much safer option. When you attach an RCD, it switches off the electricity if there so happens to be a fault. For example, if you were to accidentally cut through a cable when doing your day to day house duties and you touched the wire, you could experience a fatal electric shock.

There are a couple of different types of RCDs so it is important to understand the difference between them if you want to choose the right one for you. The fixed RCD is installed onto the actual consumer unit. This is, in most cases, the fuse box. This provides the highest level of protection and it also protects the sockets that are connected to the circuit as well. Another type would be the socket-outlet RCD. This can be used in place of a standard socket outlet and it only provides protection for the person who is touching or in contact with the lead or socket. Lastly, there is the portable RCD. This can be plugged into any socket outlet and it is great if you have either a fixed or non-fixed outlet. It should be noted that these only provide protection for the person who is in contact with the equipment, and nothing else. Studies show that RCDs are 97% reliable and this number can be improved upon if regular maintenance is carried out on the device at regular times.

When you sell or lease a property you must ensure that you have a minimum of two RCDs in your switchboard to protect your power and lighting circuits. Are you completely protected? There is a simple and easy way to find if you are. Contact Limelite Electrics today to find out more.
